The Art of Accompaniment: Prevention, Tools, and Action from Social Work

Being a social worker at Vimenti means practicing a profession that combines prevention, action, and empathy. It means understanding that, in the face of the challenges our families experience—social inequality, economic hardship, marginalization, violence, and other social vulnerabilities—the response cannot be reactive. It must be preventive, strategic, and deeply human.

The art of social work begins with active listening. Every family brings complex challenges, but also capabilities and strengths that often go unrecognized. Our role is to identify and validate those strengths and use them as the foundation to build support strategies. Together with each family, we design a sustainable action plan based on their strengths. We do not intervene through imposition, but through collaboration.

Under the Two-Generation (2Gen) model, we work simultaneously with children and their caregivers, grounded in the belief that child well-being depends on strengthening the adults in their lives. This approach allows us to intervene holistically: while supporting the socio-emotional and academic development of children, we also promote the economic stability and personal growth of adults.

Prevention is a fundamental pillar of our work. We do not wait for crises to escalate. We create educational spaces designed to strengthen parenting capacities and family well-being within Vimenti’s model. One of these spaces is our Family Academy, through which we provide training in positive parenting, effective communication, emotional regulation, responsible digital supervision, and early identification of warning signs.

These academies offer practical tools: guidance on setting healthy boundaries, strategies to strengthen children’s self-esteem, basic action protocols for risk situations, and access to available community resources. We also promote mindful use of technology, teaching parents and caregivers how to actively engage in their children’s digital experiences.

Social work requires navigating education, health, and employment systems with a strategic vision, while never losing sight of human dignity. It is a balance between data and empathy, between structure and flexibility. It means knowing when to guide and when to intervene, always in the defense and promotion of human rights—a fundamental principle of social work.

The art of our work lies not only in addressing immediate needs but also in building long-term capacity. Because every strengthened family creates a safer community, and every safer community fosters a more hopeful country.

At Vimenti, we believe that when a family gains tools, it breaks cycles. And when two generations move forward together, the impact is sustainable. Our Two-Generation model transforms the lives of entire families by strengthening children and adults simultaneously. Every intervention reflects our values: empathy guides listening and support; ethical transparency ensures clear and responsible decision-making; inclusive trust builds strong community connections; and creative innovation drives effective solutions to complex challenges. When two generations grow together under this approach, a more just, resilient, and hopeful future is built for all.
