San Juan, Puerto Rico (March 31, 2026) – The integrated family services center Vimenti y Vimenti School held their annual field day for students and families at Parque Dr. José Celso Barbosa in San Juan. This year’s event was dedicated to Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) league, its teams, and its athletes.
Students from kindergarten through eighth grade at Vimenti School, along with their parents and guardians, participated in a circuit of sports disciplines as part of a friendly, grade-level competition. These included soccer, beach tennis, beach volleyball, basketball, and track events. In addition, students from Puerto Rico’s first public partnership school took part in their traditional parade, this year showcasing banners and posters inspired by BSN teams. Teams such as the Vaqueros de Bayamón, Leones de Ponce, Gigantes de Carolina, Piratas de Quebradillas, Criollos de Caguas, Indios de Mayagüez, and Cangrejeros de Santurce were represented during the parade.
“Beyond the competitive aspect, sports are a powerful tool to teach discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Seeing how students and their families adapted to the change and continued participating demonstrates the true sportsmanship we strive to foster,” said Ángel “Rano” Martínez, middle school physical education teacher at Vimenti, FIBA 3x3 instructor for the Americas, and BSN league referee.
Not Even Bad Weather Could Stop Them
As a clear example of its institutional value of Creative Innovation, once it began to rain, Vimenti staff and community transitioned the event into a 3x3 basketball tournament, an Olympic discipline, under the direction of “Rano” Martínez.

“Our field day reflects who we are at Vimenti: a community where the development of our students goes hand in hand with the commitment and active participation of their families. Spaces like this strengthen bonds, promote overall well-being, and reaffirm our focus on the two-generation model,” said Bárbara Rivera Batista, co-founder and executive director of Vimenti.
With Support from the Vaqueros!
Kindergarten students who represented the Vaqueros de Bayamón at the field day received official team gifts hours before the event as a show of support. The team sent caps, posters, banners, and other materials to Vimenti and Vimenti School for students, families, teachers, and staff.

About Vimenti:
Vimenti is an integrated service center for the whole family with three pillars: educational, social, and economic development. It was created in 2018 as a Two-Generation service model to provide social development and economic mobility opportunities to parents and children as a whole, as well as youths and adults. Currently, we have two locations: Vimenti I, located in the Ernesto Ramos Antonini public housing project in San Juan, and Vimenti II, in Villa Prades. Vimenti operates the first public alliance school in Puerto Rico, has an after-school program for children and youth, and a job development program for youth and adults in hospitality, customer service, and entrepreneurship. The center aspires to be an evidence-based project. For more information about Vimenti, go to https://www.vimenti.org/. For donations, go to http://www.vimenti.org/donate.
