Vimenti Families Participate in Women’s Leadership Space in Recognition of International Women’s Day

San Juan, Puerto Rico (April 13, 2026) – In recognition of International Women’s Day (8M), families from the Vimenti advocacy program participated in MujerEs, an initiative designed to strengthen women’s leadership, informed decision-making, and the holistic development of women.

The event brought together more than 300 participants in a space for learning and connection, where eight practical tools were shared, focusing on personal leadership, autonomy, and the exercise of femininity with authority and purpose. The participation of Vimenti families reflects a clear community empowerment strategy aligned with the organization’s mission to break cycles of poverty through the educational, economic, and social development of families.

“These spaces are essential to expanding the capabilities of our participants and strengthening their role as agents of change within their homes and communities. We are committed to fostering women’s leadership that creates impact across generations,” said Mildred Antuna, Director of Communications at Vimenti and leader of the organization’s Advocacy Program.

The MujerEs gathering, led by Yizette Cifredo, has positioned itself as a high-impact platform that promotes human development and the sustainability of women’s leadership—values that Vimenti integrates across its programs.

Through its advocacy program, Vimenti promotes the active participation of families in experiences that amplify their voices, foster equity, and provide access to practical decision-making tools. According to the organization’s most recent data, in fiscal year 2024–2025, 49 percent of participating families are led by single mothers.

The event also forms part of Vimenti’s broader efforts to impact not only its direct participants but also their surrounding communities, promoting initiatives that integrate well-being, education, and access to opportunities. Through this work, Vimenti reaffirms its commitment to developing women as agents of change, supporting their personal growth and their ability to positively influence their families and communities.

Now in its seventh year of operation, Vimenti reports measurable impact in its mission to eradicate child poverty in Puerto Rico through an integrated services model based on the Two-Generation (2Gen) approach. During this time, Vimenti has served 1,745 individuals and provided 102,451 meal portions, achieving a 12 percent reduction in poverty among participating families.

About Vimenti:

Vimenti is an integrated service center for the whole family with three pillars: educational, social, and economic development. It was created in 2018 as a Two-Generation service model to provide social development and economic mobility opportunities to parents and children as a whole, as well as youths and adults. Currently, we have two locations: Vimenti I, located in the Ernesto Ramos Antonini public housing project in San Juan, and Vimenti II, in Villa Prades. Vimenti operates the first public alliance school in Puerto Rico, has an after-school program for children and youth, and a job development program for youth and adults in hospitality, customer service, and entrepreneurship. The center aspires to be an evidence-based project. For more information about Vimenti, go to www.vimenti.org/. For donations, go to www.vimenti.org/donate.
