Vimenti Announces Enrollment for New Families and Students

San Juan, Puerto Rico (February 25, 2025) - The Integrated Family Services Center, Vimenti, announced today its upcoming Open House for families interested in receiving its services for the 2025-2026 school year. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 26, at 4:00 p.m. at Vimenti’s facilities.

“In alignment with our Two-Generation Model, we invite all families interested in becoming part of our community and receiving our services to attend our Open House,” said Bárbara Rivera Batista, founder and executive director of Vimenti. “At Vimenti, we enroll the entire family because our approach is to provide development and economic mobility opportunities for both children and their parents together. Additionally, we offer services for youth and adults through our extended-hour programs and workforce development initiatives. Everyone is welcome.”
During the Open House, the Center will provide information on the services offered through its three institutional pillars: social support/health, education, and economic development. In the education pillar, Vimenti operates Vimenti School, Puerto Rico’s first public charter partnership school. The school offers high-quality education starting in kindergarten and expanding by one grade yearly. In August, the school will add eighth grade to its curriculum.

“We are very excited about planning a new school year, adding another grade level to our academic offering,” said Roberto Porrata Doria, Academic Director of Vimenti School. “It has been incredibly rewarding to grow alongside our students, year after year, grade after grade, to become a model for achieving economic mobility for our families.”

The school offers a bilingual academic program with differentiated education. Students learn in a project-based learning environment that encourages them to become lifelong learners, problem solvers, and leaders. Students and their families receive breakfast, while program participants also receive lunch and dinner during the school week.

Beyond academics, the educational pillar includes an extracurricular program that provides reading, writing, and activities such as computer science, physical education, and art. This program is available for Vimenti School students and students from other schools and communities. The program offers tutoring and workshops to help these students perform better academically.

The economic development pillar includes the Employability and Careers Program (PEC). This program consists of four-week or 100-hour workshops for adults, focusing on customer service skills. It also provides mentorship in key aspects of job searching, job placement assistance, and a support program. Participants receive help coordinating job interviews and/or mock interviews. They can also access complementary programs, including professional image and attire workshops, personal finance coaching, résumé preparation support, and more.

“Our program focuses on customer service and includes a curriculum and training program designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and techniques to secure job opportunities in these industries and enter Puerto Rico’s workforce,” said Limaris Aponte, Director of Economic Development at Vimenti. “The program provides a curriculum to develop essential work skills to ensure strong job performance.”

Finally, the social support pillar focuses on strengthening families through a holistic approach. It is designed to equip families with the tools they need to overcome the challenges of living below the poverty line. This area provides services such as case management, emotional intelligence training, and health and wellness support, all following the Two-Generation approach.

Now in its sixth year of operation, Vimenti has reported a significant impact in its mission to eradicate child poverty in Puerto Rico through an academic offering based on the Two-Generation Model. Over the years, Vimenti has served 1,345 individuals and provided 75,477 meal portions, reducing family poverty by 5 percent compared to the baseline level. Additionally, 48 percent of families have reached stability in their evaluations, and Vimenti School students have achieved a 70 percent general academic performance rate.
