Vimenti dedicates its second 3×3 basketball tournament to Kefrén Velázquez

SAN JUAN, PR - The integrated services center for families Vimenti inaugurated today its second friendly 3x3 basketball tournament for students of Vimenti School at its Vimenti II facilities in San Juan. This year's tournament was dedicated to journalist Kefrén Velázquez in recognition of more than 20 years of experience in sports journalism in the country's media.

'For Vimenti, it is important to promote sports, physical health, and the goals of our participating students. Likewise, to continue offering the quality education that all children in Puerto Rico deserve. We are very excited to recognize Kefrén in this second edition of the tournament; his empathy, humility, and respect for his profession demonstrate the quality of human being that Kefrén is,' said Bárbara Rivera Batista, executive director of Vimenti.

The president of the Basketball Federation also attended the inauguration activity, Mr. Yun Ramos Perales, who recognized Vimenti School as the only school that celebrates the 3x3 tournament in Puerto Rico.

The tournament will feature 152 students - 85 boys and 67 girls - from Vimenti School's third through sixth grades. The players will be divided into 44 teams by grade and gender. The teams include the participation of special education students from Vimenti School, demonstrating their value for inclusion. The games will be held during recess under Angel 'Rano' Martinez, Vimenti School's physical education teacher. Martinez is also a 3x3 basketball instructor for the Americas for the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and has been a national high school basketball referee for the past 24 seasons.

The inauguration of Vimenti School's second friendly 3x3 basketball tournament was part of the school's celebration of 100 school days of the second semester. The day's activities included the recognition of 14 students for their perfect attendance from August to December 2023 and the official welcoming of the Family Council, who welcomed Vimenti students and families to the sound of music and celebration.

"My experience at Vimenti has been very gratifying. For me, it was an experience I truly needed in my life. Vimenti helped me recover my confidence and define goals for myself."
